If someone places a bid at the last second, the clock sets back to 20 seconds which allows other bidders to decide it they want to bid again. That item will stay “on the block” until bidding stops and the the timer runs out. This eliminates bidders from “sniping” at the last second. Sniping is not really beneficial as the timer will always reset when a bid is placed and it may cost you the item if there is any type of lag or buffering in the internet service.  Some of the “tricks”...you can pre-bid on items throughout the week prior to the auction and then the final bidding will happen at the FINALONLINE AUCTION date specified.
