A note about this historic home, with roots reaching back to Amherst’s earliest settlement, this property occupies land associated with Samuel Lamson, one of the town’s first settlers in the 1730s. The property was identified on an 1858 Amherst map as the site of the “First house built in Amherst,” giving it a fascinating connection to the very beginnings of the community. It served as a tavern and inn along historic Boston Post Road in the early 1800s, welcoming travelers during an era when the road was an important regional route. In the 20th century, the home became Camp Collyer, a summer camp that welcomed boys from the Greater Boston area for decades. Drawn from this historic home is 307-lot auction opens with some genuinely exciting pieces: a sterling silver Saart baby cup engraved 'Karen,' a collection of uranium glass including a daisy-and-button crescent dish and a divided relish in a silverplate basket — both confirmed glowing green under UV — American stoneware including an Armstrong & Wentworth Norwich salt-glazed jar, an E. Swasey & Co. Portland ME crock, and a John S. Doane Co. Genever Gin jug. McCoy, Weller, and Weller bud vase lots, Fire-King Jadeite swirl bowls, Pyrex Daisy Cinderella casseroles, and a Griswold square egg skillet. Furniture standouts include a Heywood-Wakefield armoire, a matched Drexel Positano bedroom suite, and a serpentine-front fall-front secretary desk. Even a copper moonshine still used by relatives of the owners. Something for everyone — happy bidding!
