Know what a max bid is. Enter the highest amount you're willing to pay and HiBid will bid incrementally on your behalf as needed. You do NOT automatically pay your maximum. Finally, understand the closing process. Lots close in order rather than all at once. We use a "soft close," meaning if someone bids during the final two minutes, that lot remains open for another two minutes to allow a counterbid.
