A Greenwich Village art collection just landed in Chevy Chase — and it won't stay long. The Story Behind the Art: Long before he became known in art circles, Harry Zarin (1913–2008) was a young painter working the streets and studios of Greenwich Village during its most electric years — the late 1930s and '40s, when New York's art world was rewriting the rules of American painting. Zarin ran in the same circles as many of the era's most influential artists, absorbing the energy of the city and channeling it into expressive abstract compositions and moody, atmospheric cityscapes. Today, his work remains genuinely sought after — and this sale features nearly 30 original pieces by Zarin himself, roughly half of them professionally framed and ready to hang. But Zarin is just the beginning. This is a private collection built by someone with a real eye, and it includes original works by other notable artists: Hananiah Harari (1912–2000) — a modernist painter and printmaker whose work hangs in the Whitney Museum of American Art. We're offering an original self-portrait sketch, straight from his hand.Honoré Daumier — four hand-colored lithographs by the legendary 19th-century French artist, widely regarded as one of history's master printmakers.Daniel Celentano (1902–1980) — American Social Realist and student of Thomas Hart Benton.Michael Lenson (1903–1971) — modernist, muralist, and respected arts writer.Wade White (1909–1995) — American Precisionist celebrated for architectural, industrial-inspired scenes.Jeffrey Marqusee — framed photography and photography books. The showpiece is a true rarity: a 62"x32"x27" Hardwood Artisan's Mackintosh Loveseat, handcrafted from quarter-sawn white oak, finished in a rich English oak stain, and custom-upholstered in cream cushions. This is not mass production — it's the work of hardwood artisans, made to order, and built to be the centerpiece of a room for generations. Additionally, there is an IMG Comfort motorized power reclining leather sofa, a Room & Board mirror and shelving, a Crate & Barrel Lakin teak extendable dining table (81"–119" with leaves), and Crate & Barrel leather dining chairs. Also featured: a Tiffany & Co. "Wave Cut" crystal bowl, Rosenthal Studio-Line china, framed photography, premium electronics (Samsung/JBL soundbars, SureFire and Fenix tactical flashlights), and more throughout the home.
