These items are from the Castellano Family Estate. A beloved pillar of Silicon Valleys Latino community, Alcario Castellano was a retired grocery clerk from San Jose. Inspired by his wife Carmens vision, they founded the Castellano Family Foundation (CFF), which would become one of Silicon Valley's most impactful supporters of Latino-serving nonprofits. Over more than two decades, CFF awarded more than 10 million in grants to organizations serving the Latino community in Santa Clara county. From arts and education to leadership and culture, the foundation supported local nonprofits like Somos Mayfair, the Jose Valdés Math Institute, Opera Cultura, MACLA and San Jose Jazz. As Castellano often said, the lottery changed the family’s lives, but it never changed their values. Castellano was born in New Mexico in 1934 and raised as a farmworker in Hollister, California. He served in the U.S. Army, and with Carmen raised three children in Cambrian Park, San Jose.
