A note about this historic home, with roots reaching back to Amherst’s earliest settlement, this property occupies land associated with Samuel Lamson, one of the town’s first settlers in the 1730s. The property was identified on an 1858 Amherst map as the site of the “First house built in Amherst,” giving it a fascinating connection to the very beginnings of the community. It served as a tavern and inn along historic Boston Post Road in the early 1800s, welcoming travelers during an era when the road was an important regional route. In the 20th century, the home became Camp Collyer, a summer camp that welcomed boys from the Greater Boston area for decades.
