Description:
🚢 Thayer Family Titanic Consignment Sale 🚢
“To my mind, the world of today awoke April 15th, 1912.”
— John “Jack” B. Thayer III
My Auction Addiction is honored to present an extraordinary collection of personal artifacts preserved within the Thayer family, whose history is forever connected to RMS Titanic.
At the center of the collection is an Elgin pocket watch that has descended directly through the family of Titanic survivor John “Jack” B. Thayer III. According to longstanding Thayer family history this is the watch Jack carried during the sinking of RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912.
Jack Thayer was seventeen years old when Titanic sank. After entering the freezing North Atlantic, he ultimately survived aboard the overturned Collapsible Lifeboat B. His firsthand account of the disaster would later become one of the most significant descriptions of Titanic’s final moments.
The collection reaches beyond that remarkable watch and includes deeply personal pieces belonging to several generations of the Thayer family.
