Description:

Taos is a repository for stories from many travels. With a predilection toward Eastern Religion, Taos travelers return home with art and artifacts in many types and from many spiritual practices. In many of these things we can find stories of their own, searching for a new outlook now that their latest keepers have laid them down. This latest auction from TBD brings together stories from many spiritual practices: Japanese, Chinese, Burmese, Tibetan, Persian (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan), and beyond. Representations of the Buddha in wood, copper, stone, punctuated by a Shan Dynasty Rock Crystal figure; strikingly serene Bodhisattva in carved polychrome wood; benches for home or garden meditation from China and Japan; along with a choice of red lacquer altar tables are on the block. Gau boxes from Tibet, Martaban Jars from China, Japanese Inugami Clan carved gates, and a doorway from Bali ? all intrinsically themselves ? complement each other and what we believe to be a uniquely Taos collection. From Taos is who we are. For Taos is what we do.
